Yugi

Yugi is the main character in Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters. He is a young schoolboy that has a passion for playing games. Lately, he has become very involved in the game Duel Monsters. One day, his grandfather gives him a puzzle for him to solve. It is rumored that the person that unlocks the puzzle will be given dark powers. Yugi solves the puzzle and draws forth his alter ego, Yami Yugi, a powerful, courageous spirit that is a expert in Duel Monsters. In my opinion, Yugi by himself is a nice person. He seems to have just as good a grasp of the game Duel Monsters than Yami Yugi. Yugi is also willing to do anything to help out his friends. He is always there for them just as they are always there for him. Yugi helps out Joey as he learns the game and begins to lay out his own destiny. All in all, Yugi is one of those types of people that you would want watching out for you, even though he is too little and too young to do much.

Yami Yugi
This is our other main character in Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters. Yami Yugi is the spirit that lies within Yugi's Millenium Puzzle. Whenever Yugi is faced with a difficult decision, Yami Yugi is summoned forth to guide Yugi in the right path. Yami Yugi is no less than a game master and in almost every game that he has played, he has won. Yami Yugi is driven like Kaiba to win and this is just as dangerous as Kaiba's desire to beat Yugi in any way possible. This is shown when he has the chance to defeat Kaiba's Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon but if he did, Kaiba would kill himself. It took Tea's tears and the real Yugi to stop him. Little is known about Yami Yugi himself though. He never speaks of a past, if he does have a past and since its apparent that all the Millenium Items came from Egypt, its safe to say that Yami Yugi has some kind of connection to Ancient Egypt.
Joey
This tough sounding guy is the comic relief to the group. Joey on the outside acts tough but he is a totally different person in his heart. Joey, as far as i know, has no family outside of his friends and his sister, Serenity. She has a eye disease that will blind her so Joey tries to become a duelist to win money for surgery that will save Serenity's eyesight. He demonstrates a lot of potential but is still hot-headed somewhat. He makes up for this with a drive to help in any way he can, even to the point of putting himself in life threatening dangers. As the series goes along, it becomes obvious that Joey becomes a duelist to be reckoned with, maybe even by the likes of Yugi and Kaiba
Tea
Tea is the lone female in the group but dont let that fool you. She is probably the strongest willed person out of them all, next to Yami Yugi. She is one of those people that are there for you for whatever you need. Tea is not a duelist by a long shot and knows not too much about the game of Duel Monsters, but her prescence next to you in a duel is a welcome addition. She seems to have a real dislike of Mai and how she wants to duel Yugi. Other than that, she holds friendship as the closest treasure in her heart. She has put herself in danger in the name of friendship and she is really the backbone of the group of her, Yugi, Tristan and Joey. None of them would dispute that she is the one that keeps them together when things get rough and the times are hard on them.
Tristan
Tristan is Joey's best friend and both Joey and Tristan act like brothers to one anouter. Tristan is more or less the muscle of the group. He lets his fists do the talking for him but unlike Joey, is more cool and level-headed about things. He is always there to guide Joey along almost like a father or a big brother would but sometimes he is just too hard-headed to know when to back off. That kind of thinking has led to many fights between the duo but their friendship always comes though in the end. I think that Tristan is more like blood to Joey than anyone else out of the series so far.

Bandit Keith
Bandit Keith is the number one ranked American duelist at Duelist Kingdom. But he is not without his dark side. Behind those shades, Bandit Keith is a man that is losing his soul. After losing in the most humiliating way to Pegasus at a tournament in New York City, he spent some time in the back alleys of dueling. He played games for money, he took to drinking and his hate for Pegasus kept eating away at him, constantly. He has entered the tournament to get the 3 million dollar prize and to take his revenge against Pegasus. While he might be a drinker, that doesnt take away from his dueling skills. He seems to use a lot of machine cards and cards that you have to gamble with. He also will cheat to win a duel and, like Weevil, will not hesitate to cripple his opponent, like by locking them in a cave. Some people like his style and all but he's alright to me.
Mai
Mai could be classified as one of those women that "use what God gave them" to get what they want. If she cant get what she wants one way, she knows other ways to do so. She has no problem using her body to get whatever she desires. She is a very competant duelist because she also uses her femininity to beat other duelists, even though it seems that she solely depends on her one card, Harpy Lady. In her duel with Joey though, her eyes were opened up and her "my best friend is myself" lifestyle started to wash away. After the duel with Panik, she learned the advantages of having friends by your side. Like most any other duelist that duels against Yugi, she is eager to prove herself to him. Maybe she will change her heart, but no one can expect her to drop a good thing that easily...
Isis
Isis is the director of the Bureau of Archaeology in Egypt and a scholar in Egyptology. She was the curator of an exhibit in Domino City where she invited Seto Kaiba to view an ancient tablet showing the origins of the game of Duel Monsters, and how they came from Egypt. She also showed him the mural depicting the battle between the nameless Egyptian pahroah and the dark priest and the images of the three God Cards, Obelisk, Osiris and Raa. She is the one that "lends" Kaiba the use of God of Obelisk to lure out the other 2 God Cards from GHOULS. She herself does not seem to be a person of quick anger and is the type to be calm and cautious in situations. She posses the Millenium Tauk which can allow her to see into the past and into the future. She also duels a little bit but her main purpose so far seems to be to stop GHOULS from gathering all the God Cards.
Marik
Marik is a mysterious character and the leader of the criminal group GURUS. Marik has made his presence known by controlling the minds of Yugi's opponents in the tournament with the power of the millienium rod and he seems to hold a vendetta against Yami Yugi. Marik is the holder of two of the three God cards, Slifer and Ra, however while he keeps Ra in his posession at all times he has allowed one of the rare card hunters to carry Slifer in his deck in order to draw Yugi into duelling him.
Shadi
Shadi is a figure that is simply surrounded in mysteries. Shadi appears to Yugi after his duel with Maximillion Pegasus and is looking for the person that stole the Millenium Eye. He wields two Millenium Items, the Millenium Key and the Millenium Scale. The scale is used for measuring the evilness in ones heart and Shadi keeps a feather in his turban, called the Feather of Truth if im right. The person's heart is on one side of the scale and the feather is on the other. If the heart is heavier than the feather, its full of sin and a demon comes to consume the victim. The key is used to unlock the minds of whoever Shadi chooses and can control them to a point as well with it. Shadi was the one that "gave" Pegasus the Millenium Eye and for a point believed that Yugi was the one that stole the Eye. Other than these facts, Shadi has no rhyme or reason for what he does, he just comes and goes as he pleases...
Seto Kabia
Seto Kaiba is the owner of Kaiba Corp., a company that is one of the world leaders in technology but Kaiba's real passions lay in playing Duel Monsters. So far, i have seen that he is the most competitive out of all the characters introduced to the series. Seto also doesn't take kindly to anyone messing with his little brother, Mokuba Kaiba. Since his first defeat to Yugi, he now lives for the day to get a rematch against the only person in the world that has beaten him. Kaiba's Duel Monsters deck is supremely powerful, boasting cards like the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon, Monster Reborn, Black Hole and the worlds only Blue Eyes White Dragons. With a deck this powerful and skill practically unmatched in the world, what is it that makes Kaiba the loser when dueling Yugi? Perhaps it has something to do with the "Heart of the cards...". Whether this is the reason or not, Kaiba's heart and soul are driven to defeating Yugi and, from what i have seen, has pushed him to the brink of insanity and beyond. Undoubtidly the most intense duelist and one of the most respected characters in the series, Kaiba's name is one of respect and fear whenever you hear it.
Mokuba Kabia
Mokuba is probably Kaiba's lone fan throughout the series. Mokuba stays by his brother's side, always cheering his brother on to win. Since Seto's loss to Yugi, he has become Kaiba's one cheerleader when he talks about beating Yugi. Mokuba plays a little bit of Duel Monsters but doesnt duel that much. He is mainly there so far to help his brother any way he can to beat Yugi. It looks like Mokuba is the only one that can see the good part in Kaiba.

Maximillion Pegasus
Maximillion Pegasus is the boyhood dream of every parent, a sucessful businessman and a extremely wealthy wallet. As the President of Industrial Illusions, the makers of the Duel Monsters card game, he has access to every card ever made. Add to that the power of his Millenium Eye, and it makes him a truly worthy opponent. He duels cunningly, using his own strategy of dueling plus the information he steals from your mind when you're playing aganist him. As the maker of the Duel Monsters game, you know that he has several strategys and decks ready to defeat any opponent possible. And the fact that he holds the worlds only Toon World card, it makes it that much more difficult to defeat him. There seems to be a woman in Pegasus' life though, could that have something to do with him having the powerful Millenium Eye?
Serenity
Serenity, is Joey little sister. At one time, she and her brother lived together until their parents divorced and she went with their mother while Joey went with their father. She was diagnosed with a disease that would make her go blind soon so Joey hitchhiked to the Duelist Kingdom to win the prize money for an operation to save her eyes. After everyone returned from the Duelist Kingdom she went ahead and had her operation and regained her eyesight after a while. She also seems to duel a little bit and Tristan helped her a lot while bandages covered her eyes after the operation. She dearly loves Joey and wants to help him however she can in his duels. Her being there with Joey sometimes gives him the drive and courage to push on through duels he's clearly losing. Shizuka fully stands by her brother and its yet to be seen if Tristan has a interest in her as well.
